It would be my luck that I would come across model “gold” such as Cam, only to have a limited window during which he will be around. The moment Cam walked in the door at the Matthew Agency, I knew he was destined for a great career as a model, and when he sat down and told me he only had the summer to model for me (as he was expected in NYC this fall to begin modeling full-time) I wasn’t surprised. I guess I will just count myself, and the agency lucky enough to have him for the summer!

I had been wanting to play around with the idea of commercialized youth for sometime, and Cam was the perfect “youth” to try this idea out on. Originally I had intended this series to be bright and colorful, with the colors of commercial logos splashed across the images. I wanted to do a commentary on the influence of major brands on not only the youth, but America as a whole. In the end, however, it felt more powerful to remove the power of the “brands” by taking away the color, and allowing the focus to fall back to the “boy” where it belongs. Enjoy! -JM

The best way to describe my pride in the success of these images is to explain a little something about my post-production process. When I do a series of images, generally speaking I will edit six to eight images to compose a final collection. With model Travis, I edited 15!

Matthew Agency model Travis had, up until this point, always maintained a very boy-next-door image. We decided it was time to strip him down, oil him up, and make him the sexy-abercrombie-boy-next-door instead. Until our shoot, he had not even taken his shirt off for a camera (other than candids with friends on the beach). He admitted his nervousness, but jumped right into the deep end! For a model who had never even bared his chest, he was extremely poised and comfortable in his skin when it was time to bare it all.

In the end, Travis said it was the most fun he had experienced in front of a camera. The shoot was quite simply, effortless. Clearly the kid works hard on his body. He has barely a flaw and the only real photoshopping involved was color treatment! I’m proud of Travis for taking a chance and really going for it, it definitely paid off in these amazing images!

The series was picked up by one of my favorite blogs, Ohlalamag.com. Of course I always count myself lucky to be published among their variety of talent! And with this series of amazing images, I couldn’t be prouder! Enjoy! -JM

Ditched – Ryan W

Today’s photo shoot comes straight from the city of sin itself. Model Ryan W and I go way back, as he was among the first models I shot as a professional photographer. We’ve stayed in touch over the years, and on my recent visit to Vegas, we couldn’t resist but shoot again. Years have gone by, but Ryan’s incredible physique hasn’t faltered. His career as a dancer has made sure of that.

On our previous shoot, we had ventured far into the desert outside of Las Vegas. For this shoot, we ventured into another sort of wasteland; the concrete jungle of the city’s drainage system. The tall cement walls, stark and empty landscape, and sharp angles made this a perfect location. Toss in Ryan’s good looks and killer body, and we’ve got a pretty damn good series of photos on our hands! Enjoy! -JM

This is not the first (and I am sure it will not be the last) time I have shot the incredible Anthony VonBargen. He embodies the cool, calm, confident model. Every time I am in Ohio, I make sure that I find time to meet up with this Cincinnati model who has now also become a great friend. Our past collaborations A Perfect Day Part II and Industrial Wonderland produced some incredible images, setting a standard to which this new series has definitely met!

Model Seth and I met briefly, and only a short time later he was stripping down in a train yard. Seth showed no fear in climbing, jumping, or swinging from any heights, and doing it all half dressed. The photo shoot flew by as Seth delivered shot after shot of attitude, body, and masculinity. Either climbing to the top of old train cars, jumping off them, or simply standing still, he was confident and stunning in all aspects. For a model just diving into the biz, he was spot on. Lee and Birch Spring/Summer 2010

I was extremely proud and excited when Lee and Birch approached me not only to provide our models from The Matthew Agency for their Spring/Summer look book for 2010, but to also shoot it! A day in a sun filled garden, racks and racks of clothing and accessories, and of course a great crew of helpers produced a phenomenal series of images.

It was a hot day, with a lot of sun and very little wind. But the gorgeous setting of the garden at mid-day lent perfectly to the soft, over-exposed aesthetic that we wanted. The images below are only a sampling of the full day’s effort! The models pumped out look after look, and still had a smile on their faces when all was said and done! These ladies were troopers! Published! Summer Loving

In October of 2009, my photography finally graced the pages of a real magazine. DNA Magazine is a racey, sexy magazine out of Australia and issue #117 holds a full 6 pages of photography by Jerrad Matthew. It may have taken a while to get the digital pages in my hands, but I think it was worth the wait.

Model Sam Devries, with his dark and sexy features, smolders in this shoot. Of course, with a hot model on a hot beach, what else would one expect? Sun, sweat, oil and sand equals one lethal combination. Add the latest swimwear fashions by Aussiebum, Rufskin, and Ami Sanzuri and the beach doesn’t get much hotter! Enjoy! -JM

A Perfect Day – Part II

This next and final half of the Perfect Day pictorial was shot on that same strangely warm November day in Ohio. Anthony VonBargen, seen here in the Industrial Wonderland series, met me at the same wonderful barn as model AJ Kessler. With a bright warm sky above, and a phenomenal location… not to mention a stunning model, I was able to knock out more spectacular images.

I honestly cannot wait for spring to arrive so I can get back out into the open world and shoot more fantastic photo series for you all to enjoy. I hope this post will bring you warm thoughts as we get closer to that time! Enjoy! -JM
