Published! Summer Loving

In October of 2009, my photography finally graced the pages of a real magazine.  DNA Magazine is a racey, sexy magazine out of Australia and issue #117 holds a full 6 pages of photography by Jerrad Matthew.  It may have taken a while to get the digital pages in my hands, but I think it was worth the wait. Model Sam Devries, with his dark and sexy features, smolders in this shoot.  Of course, with a hot model on a hot beach, what else would one expect?  Sun, sweat, oil and sand equals one lethal combination.  Add the latest swimwear fashions by Aussiebum, Rufskin, and Ami Sanzuri and the beach...

A Perfect Day – Part II

This next and final half of the Perfect Day pictorial was shot on that same strangely warm November day in Ohio.  Anthony VonBargen, seen here in the Industrial Wonderland series, met me at the same wonderful barn as model AJ Kessler.  With a bright warm sky above, and a phenomenal location... not to mention a stunning model, I was able to knock out more spectacular images. I honestly cannot wait for spring to arrive so I can get back out into the open world and shoot more fantastic photo series for you all to enjoy.  I hope this post will bring you warm thoughts as we get closer to that...

A Perfect Day – Part 1

Sunshine, warm light, warm air, and not a cloud in the sky.  Only a slight chill in a breeze that blew infrequently.  A typical Ohio day in November... Confused?  So were model AJ Kessler and myself as we drove to a remote, vacant, and run down barn in the Ohio country side.  We had planned for the worst when we discussed doing a photo shoot with a lot of skin... outdoors... in November.  But we were very pleasantly surprised when we were blessed with such a perfect day. AJ was the farthest thing from shy that there could possibly be.  More than comfortable in his own skin, he had no problem...

The Category of Sexy

While they have never graced the cover of British tabloids like the photo shoot's inspiration David and Victoria Beckham (W Magazine), Craig and Alyssa definitely held their own in the category of sexy.  There was no doubt when we arrived to our set (a single bedroom apartment dressed to look like a seedy hotel) that this shoot was definitely going to get hot. While I have shot many photo series that I would categorize as sexy, and worked with many models in that category as well, the natural chemistry between these two married models literally made me sweat.  There was no hesitation, no awkward...

Anthony VonBargen

INDUSTRIAL WONDERLAND.  There are rundown abandoned factories, and then there is the Powder Factory in a small town outside Cincinnati, Ohio.  Climb through a window or crawl in over a crumbling wall and you're transported to a fantasy world.  Vines, trees, and moss grow freely inside its dilapidated walls;  nature reclaiming the territory industry once tried to steal from it. As I shot this series of photographs, I couldn't help but imagine model Anthony VonBargen as ruler of these ruins.  Even in this amazing setting, Anthony demanded the attention of the camera.  His body lines and shapes...

Tied Up & Chained Down

Do you prefer to be tied up, or chained down?   Today I bring you both in a combination of two series shot with model Wesley Lunsford.  Among my first attempts at editorial photography, here are two stories, both shot in a different city and months apart.  It is truly a coincidence that they... um, tie together so well. In Tied Up, the photo shoot took us to multiple locations around Memphis, Tennessee.  I wanted to show the versatility of ties, that they are not just for formal occasions.  A tie can make any outfit just that much classier, even when you're not wearing much at all... you'll...

The Color of Andy

It all started with a little yellow dress; a lucky find.  This dress, bright, unapologetic canary yellow, inspired the theme for this series of images.  Model Andrea Caitlyn steps through three decades of color with the amazing efforts of make-up artist and hair stylist Hanna Wagner. Hanna brought a modern take to three distinct decades of style.  First, 60's mod with clean lines and clean face.  Next, 70's Hippie chic with flowing hair, a bright open face, and beads, lots of beads.  Ending with what I call 80's Big: big hair, big make-up, big accessories, and bigger statements. It was nearly...

It’s an Abercrombie Life

It very well may have been the Abercrombie and Fitch Quarterly that first sparked my interest in photography. I remember wondering how one small magazine could cause so much controversy, especially when the images inside were so beautiful! A&F Quarterly did exactly everything right. Beautiful people in beautiful locations; it was everything everyone wanted to be. Abercrombie and Fitch became known for more than clothes, it was now a way of life.  The clothes insinuated (often very wrongly) that those wearing them lived the lifestyle pictured in the Quarterly. According to the images,...

Flashed!

Flashed is my first attempt at something slightly larger scale.  Try squeezing four models, a make-up artist, an assistant, lighting equipment and a photographer into a not-so-large men's room at a local club and this is apparently what you get.  We started the day with make-up artist Hanna Wagner  adding a roughed-up rock star look to the guys before trekking over to the "set" also known as the bathroom at Diversions Night Club.  Wardrobe styling was done by yours truly.  The mirrors brought an interesting challenge, but in the end, they also brought about the inspiration for the name of the sieries,...
